Kenya Cancels Adani Group Contracts Amid Bribery Allegations

Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi defended the agreements as having undergone due diligence but confirmed plans to seek alternative partners.

President William Ruto has canceled all contracts awarded to India’s Adani Group following public backlash and bribery charges against Gautam Adani and seven executives in the U.S. In his State of the Nation Address, Ruto annulled the $736 million Ketraco power deal and the contentious JKIA airport lease, signaling Kenya’s commitment to corruption-free governance.

Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi defended the agreements as having undergone due diligence but confirmed plans to seek alternative partners. Lawmakers welcomed the move with chants of “Adani Must Go,” emphasizing Kenya’s firm stance against corruption and unethical business practices.
