Project your NSSF pension

Estimate your statutory NSSF contribution today, and an indicative pot and pension at retirement.

Earnings above KES 108,000/month don't increase your NSSF contribution further β€” it's capped at the Tier II ceiling.

How NSSF Tier I and Tier II contributions work

NSSF is Kenya's statutory pension scheme: you and your employer each contribute a share of your pensionable earnings every month, and the combined amount is invested on your behalf until retirement. Under NSSF Phase 4, that contribution is described in two tiers β€” Tier I on the first band of earnings, Tier II on the band above it up to a cap β€” though in practice the two tiers add up to a single combined rate applied to your earnings up to that cap.

Tier IIKES 9,001 – 108,0006% + 6%

Maximum contribution per side: KES 6,480 a month (6% of the KES 108,000 Tier II cap). Source: NSSF β€” Phase 4 contribution rates, effective February 2026, as of 21 July 2026.

Worked example: KES 60,000 a month

On the calculator's own default of KES 60,000 in monthly pensionable earnings: Tier I contributes 6% of the first KES 9,000 (KES 540 a side), and Tier II adds 6% of the next KES 51,000 up to the cap (KES 3,060 a side) β€” KES 3,600 a side, KES 7,200 a month combined, matching what the calculator shows above.

Contributing KES 7,200 a month from age 30 to a retirement age of 60 (30 years), and assuming an 8% annual growth rate on the pot, projects to a fund of about KES 10,730,588 at retirement. Spread over an assumed 15 years in payment, that's an indicative pension of roughly KES 59,614 a month.

What this figure isn't

The contribution rates and earnings cap above are statutory and won't change unless NSSF or the law does. The 8% growth rate and 15-year payment period are assumptions you set, not NSSF-declared figures, so the projected pot and pension are indicative only β€” not a benefit statement. Check nssf.or.ke or an official NSSF statement for your actual balance.
